Our Future
Almost half a century after assuming stewardship, the Society is seeking to revitalize the station and site. We will be assessing the needs and resources required for restoration of the station building, interpretive exhibits, and potential creation of an integrated site plan recognizing its scenic riverside park site and adjacent 1850s freight house. The expanded vision for the Station goes beyond railroad history to build community and promote Hudson Valley culture.
In cooperation with the Town, stakeholders, and interested parties, the Hudson Valley Railroad Society is seeking to undertake:
- Station and Freight House building historic preservation plan
- Integrated site plan, inclusive of the park and historic railroad structures/assets
- Enhanced visitor experiences, shaping how people connect with one another
- Curatorial and immersive exhibition plan for artifacts/collections
- Potential placement of 1928 Pullman Observation car and a miniature kids ride-on-railroad
- Strengthening ties to National Park Service, FDR Presidential Library, Vanderbilt Mansion
- Acquiring funding from local, state, federal, and private sources
